TOWSON, MD. – The winners of the 2013 Four-Way Test ethics program, in which 12 Baltimore County public schools participated this year, were honored yesterday evening at an awards ceremony at Loch Raven High School. The event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Hunt Valley and The James W. Houck Foundation, Inc.
The Four-Way Test, which has been the guiding principle of Rotary International since 1943, asks its members to consider four questions when making any decision: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Participating students were encouraged to express their thoughts about the Four-Way Test, with cash prize incentives for the top three finishers in each grade or school. Elementary school students were asked to develop posters, middle school students wrote essays, and high school students wrote speeches as part of their public speaking courses. In addition, the top three speeches by high school students were awarded additional prizes.
