TOWSON, MD. – Three BCPS students who showed outstanding leadership and consistent sportsmanship received Allied Sports Scholarships during a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 27.
Allied Sports, created during the 1994-1995 school year, provides students with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports alongside their peers without disabilities.
Each 2020 Allied Sports Scholarship winner will receive a $500 scholarship and a plaque.
“I could not be prouder of the three athletes recognized,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “They led by example. Every coach hopes they will have athletes who will inspire others, and these students did that.”

Andre Vines, Woodlawn High School
Vines is the recipient of the Tradepoint Atlantic Allied Sports Scholarship, which is awarded to an outstanding senior student aide in the BCPS Allied Sports program. He participated in allied soccer and bowling. Coaches said he was polite to everyone and was excellent at explaining rules to teammates, encouraging his peers, and making sure all students were prepared. The award is named for Tradepoint Atlantic, a Global Logistics Park currently revitalizing projects in Baltimore County. This is the second year Tradepoint Atlantic has sponsored the scholarship.![]()
Jenea Farris, Owings Mills High School
Farris is the recipient of the 2020 Brittney Reese Allied Sports Scholarship, which is awarded to an outstanding senior female athlete in the BCPS Allied Sports Program. Farris played soccer and softball for six seasons. Her enthusiasm for allied sports was palpable. Coaches said she was responsible for recruiting about half of her teammates to participate. She enjoyed helping teammates develop their athletic skills and was known for always smiling when greeting peers. The award Farris received is named for an Olympic champion long jumper and the original sponsor of the Allied Sports Scholarship in BCPS. This is Reese’s eighth year of sponsorship.

Chase Douglass, Dulaney High School
Douglass is the recipient of the 2020 Chase Kalisz Allied Sports Scholarship, which is awarded to an outstanding senior male athlete in the BCPS Allied Sports Program. He played 15 seasons of allied sports and was a regular participant in soccer, bowling, and softball. He was Dulaney High’s allied soccer leading scorer. He displayed consistent sportsmanship and always had a friendly and warm demeanor with both teammates and opponents. The award Douglass received is named after an Olympic Silver Medalist and a two-time world champion swimmer. Kalisz is in his second year sponsoring a BCPS Allied Sports Scholarship.
