TOWSON, MD. – A short story by Catonsville High School senior Claire Doll will be published in the upcoming fifth volume of “Otherwise Engaged Literature and Arts Journal,” a biannual publication featuring work by artists, writers, and photographers worldwide. Doll’s story, “Flooded,” is about the cleanup of Old Ellicott City following a catastrophic flood in 2018, made even more challenging because the community had endured a similar flood in 2016. The fifth edition of “Otherwise Engaged” is to be published on June 1 and will be available on Amazon.com. “Flooded” is Doll’s first work to be published beyond her high school’s literary magazine, “Ellipsis,” of which she is the editor-in-chief. Doll was encouraged to submit some of her writing for possible publication by English teacher Marie Thrailkill, who is faculty advisor to “Ellipsis.” In the fall, Doll will attend Mount St. Mary’s University to study elementary education.
