Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Fair showcases student knowledge, creativity: 104 elementary schools represented at 10th annual extravaganza

What: Baltimore County Public Schools is hosting its 10th annual Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fair featuring entrants from 104 Baltimore County elementary schools. The day-long exposition will showcase the best science displays from elementary students across the school district as well as a variety of presentations. The STEM Fair will present 200 projects from 226 entrants, while another 385 third-grade students – making up 98 teams – will compete in the Safe Racer Challenge portion of the event. An awards presentation will take place at the end of the fair. When: Friday, May 17
  • 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.: Two Safe Racer competitions
Saturday, May 18
  • 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Three Safe Racer competitions
  • 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Judging of projects
  • 1:45 – 3 p.m.: Activities and presentations for fair participants
  • 3 – 3:45 p.m.: Fair open to the public
  • 4 p.m. : Awards ceremony
Where:Parkville High School 2600 Putty Hill Avenue Parkville, MD 21234Background: Presentations at the STEM Fair will include “Your Physics Superpowers” by Jonathan Roland of the Maryland State Department of Natural Resources “Wings and Things” program, a presentation from M.I.T doctoral candidate and former BCPS student Peter DeMuth, and a presentation from Reptile World. In Safe Racer, teams of students will vie for honors in a competition to keep an egg “driver” safe as it competes in crash tests and distance competitions against other egg-piloted, student-designed vehicles.
