TOWSON, MD— Books published by seniors enrolled in the Literary Arts Program at the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology are now available for purchase at the school and on Amazon.com. The books are:
  • “Airtight” by Tara Adelberg
  • “Cul-de-sac: A Collection of Short Stories” by Taylor Humin
  • “General Justice” by Rose Patterson
  • “In Blue Sunlight” by Fritz McGlynn
  • “Shadows” by Brittany Burke
  • “Something Waiting: An Anthology” by Marnie Silverman
  • “Tales of Intrigue” by David Gleyzer
  • “The Land I Love” by Kristen Pellicot
  • “The Peculiar and Trans-universal Lockers of Hamilton High” by Alyssa Krasnansky
  • “Upholstery” by Lizz Astor
  • “What Washed Ashore” by Jalynn Harris
Varying in both genre and type, the books, selling for $10.00 each, include monologues, plays, poems and short stories written by students over the course of the 2012-2013 school year. In addition to requiring students to compose the content of their books, the Literary Arts curriculum challenged students to design the cover and layout of their books, as well as develop a marketing strategy for the sale of their books, as part of their senior seminar. On Friday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m., The Ivy Bookshop, located at 6080 Falls Road, will host a public book launch event for the students’ compositions. During the event, student authors will read excerpts from their books. Unique to the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology and Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, the BCPS Literary Arts Program allows students to refine their command of written language techniques through engagement in enrichment reading and critical evaluation exercises.
