Overlea and Chesapeake high school students to compete at international DECA conference: Students traveling to California for business competition

TOWSON, MD. – Ten students from Overlea and Chesapeake high schools will travel to Anaheim, Ca. next week to compete among thousands of business enthusiasts at DECA’s International Career Development Conference being held April 23-27, 2013. The students qualified for the competition by earning first or second place in one of approximately 40 competition categories at the Maryland DECA State Career Development Conference held this March. They are:
  • Dayshawn Alexander and Brian Dickerson from Chesapeake High School, competing in Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making
  • Kelly Bohman and Mary Rose Pedron from Overlea High School, competing in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
  • Belen Dadicho and Jeremy Sams from Overlea High School, competing in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
  • Kara Davis from Overlea High School, competing in Hotel and Lodging Management
  • Austin Newcomb from Overlea High School, competing in Automotive Services Management
  • Tyler Oleszczuk and Cody Schmidt from Overlea High School, competing in Sports and Entertainment Team Decision Making
Competitors are judged on two components: the completion of a 100-question exam and the development and presentation of ideas on a category-specific concept. Medals are awarded to the top three students in each category. DECA is an international association of marketing students with more than 185,000 student members in 5,000 high schools across the globe. Their annual career development conference attracts more than 16,000 students, advisors, businesspersons and alumni for leadership and career development in the areas of marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
